Thirty-two years ago I can point unequivocally to the very best day of my life, the day that I began a brand new life, the day that I met for the first time my life long friends, my greatest gift, my babies, Melissa and Kelsey.
The day before they were born I walked to Safeway with the intention of buying my favorite food at that time, chicken and because they were on sale, four maple bars; one for me and three for Walt. On the way home I treated myself to one maple bar and that led to the second one and before I knew it, I'd eaten all four! I should have know something was up with that!
Awaking early on that Friday morning I thought I had a new humiliation, wetting the bed - but no, my water had broken- Melissa and Kelsey were going to make their appearance seven weeks early. After consulting the doctor that indeed I needed to head into the hospital I insisted that my hair be washed before the big event. Walt indulging me, washed my hair and then it was off to the hospital.

Three hours later, at 9:13AM Melissa Catherine was born weighing 3 LBS 7 OZ and measuring 17 inches long. Nearly six minutes later a loud gush of water accompanied two tiny little feet and at 9:19AM Kelsey Ernestine was born weighing 3 LBS 10 OZ and measuring a whooping 18 inches long. Both were small, had some trouble breathing and maintaining their body temperature, but overall healthy.

Now, 32 years later, I still marvel at how perfect they are to me. I will forever feel blessed that I have the privilege of calling them my daughters and my friends.

Happy Birthday Melissa, Happy Birthday Kelsey, I love you so very, very much. May this coming year be filled with joy, laughter, happiness and surprise!

I love you too Mom!
