Poor Little Penny

Penny Cougan had surgery today . . . poor little girl.

On Monday I noticed some swelling on her back and it turned out to be an abscess that had to be surgically drained.  Her veterinarian called to give me the diagnosis and suggested that while she was out she should also have her teeth cleaned.  Wouldn't you know it - turns out she had an abscess on a tooth and another molar with a crack in it and both needed to be extracted! When I was growing up our dogs never had their teeth cleaned. What was I going to say to her doctor, "No, I don't care about her teeth and any pain she may be suffering because of her poor oral health." I, of course gave him permission to proceed.

So poor little Penny is suffering with a shaved back, straw-like thing (drain) in her side, a sore mouth, wearing the cone of shame, and can only eat soft foods for the next four days.  I am relieved that it wasn't something more serious but now have a much lighter pocketbook. Oh well.
