Not so Chilly and Just Sort of Hilly
Cascade Bike Club's annual "kick the season off" ride was Sunday. Named for the fact that the Puget Sound is not known for pleasant weather in February and the route around Bainbridge Island is hilly - the Chilly Hilly is also the sort of ride that a lot of first time cyclist take on. This year's ride was no exception and proved to be wildly popular because the weather forecast was for unseasonably warm and sunny weather. And for the most part - it was sunny-ish and warmer. One year I rode in side-ways rain and so cold I thought I'd never warm up again.
I was so taken in by Jeff Renner's forecast that I wore shorts and my lighter weight cycling jacket. A little error in judgement on my part. When I was riding I was perfectly comfortable - but on the ferry I about froze.
My friend Jennifer rode with me - a year ago we met on the trip to Viet Nam. She's wearing the yellow jacket in the center of the picture. All in all it was an excellent ride and I was happy with my two hour and twenty minute riding time but I have a long way to go to reach my average speed goal. Hey, I'm working on it!
