Squawk Your Cry and Shout for Victory!

“I find as I grow older that I love those most whom I loved first.”
~Thomas Jefferson

The title refers to actual lyrics of the Cordell Hull fight song - our mascot was a hawk. I am certain that when we were in the 9th grade we didn't find it particularly amusing or odd but we should have. Who squawks for anything?

Before leaving work on Friday, several of my co-workers asked as they often do, "What are you doing for the weekend?" And most of the time I have a fairly pedestrian type of answer - dinner with friends, babysitting my grandchildren, taking a ride. But this weekend something very different, "I'm entertaining a large group of friends from the 9th grade - an 'almost' 40 year reunion from Cordell Hull Junior High!"  Being in your 50s and reacquainting yourself with friends from nearly 40 years ago is eye opening, interesting and above all, fun. Seeing 22 members of my group of friends was in one word; priceless.

It is fairly common for most to have forgotten their junior high experience - especially after 40 years - and, not really be able to name anyone who may have been in their class. Not the case for this class. We universally remembered it to be one of the highlights of our life and as unbelievable as this may sound -  one we've drawn on time and time again. For whatever reason, the stars aligned and we as a group jellied and those experiences are ones that we've held on to for a very long time.

Do me a favor, think about someone from your past, look them up and give them a call or drop them a line. You'll feel great and they will too.
