My Favorite Things Again!

I'm musing this morning and this is what it looks like on my little patio. It is an amazingly beautiful day in the northwest; sitting here with the sun warming me, my coffee and cute little i-phone, I'm thinking about my favorite things to do since yesterday and later today, I'm doing one of them - riding my bike!

Because the 4th fell on a Saturday this year I had yesterday off and spent it on the peninsula riding with my friends the Tobins. They live in Gig Harbor - a lovely seaside town with a ton of hills. It was a great ride, 70 miles but did I mention, a TON of HILLS! My quads are just a tiny bit sore! But I'm riding today with my friend Lo, who I met riding to San Francisco. We're do the 65 mile route of the Flying Wheels ride. Hopefully my legs will rally and I'll make it the entire way without too much complaining. Or maybe I'll try to talk her into 45 miles! (I have to figure out how to get a run in . . . JULY 19th - try-a-thon!!!)

I love my little patio. It really isn't big enough for more than four people, in that respect I wish it was a little bigger. But when it's just me, well, it's heaven. It is adjacent to the garden so I can see how things are progressing there. Today I pulled out what I thought was kale . . . it was taking over everything else. The root had a big ball, onion-like thing. Maybe I was growing onions? I don't know what the foliage of onions looks like. Anyway, I moved the basil and curry plants from underneath the giant tomato plants and hopefully all will be happy now, including me.

Every morning when I feed Penny and Scout I look at my window sill and see this little mouse that Barney carved for me. Seeing that always reminds me of Barney's spirit and words. There are no coincidence; God has a plan; life is an adventure and you should take advantage of all that is offered; be thankful and share your gifts; learn something everyday; look for the beauty in all things. I miss Barney.

Speaking of morning, my favorite meal of the day happens then! I love breakfast. Oatmeal (buy 'em at Trader Joe's, so much cheaper than the regular grocery store!), dried cranberries and brown sugar or if I'm going out; two eggs over medium, hashbrowns and an English muffin with orange marmalade! Simply delicious.

Finally, my babies. I love my kids - I really like who they are. But Eli and Abby, amazing. I can't wait until we have conversations. The insights of children can be very helpful to the cynical views one has as an adult. From the mouth of babes is a true statement!

Happy 4th of July! Can you believe that we had a beautiful Memorial Day and now the 4th of July all in the same year? Incredible. I'm taking advantage of it all.
