Weekend Update

• Medieval Birthday Bash
• Grandchildren
• Garden
• Friends

What a whirlwind of a weekend. Busy weekends are a lot of fun but it sure makes them go fast – it feels as if I just left work and seemingly overnight it’s time to return.

Friday night I had an impromptu dinner with my friends Jim and Joanne. I just love my little outdoor patio and the weather was just warm enough that we could enjoy dinner out there. Last spring I bought a large pot at Costco (I LOVE Costco) and in a Martha Stewart inspired moment topped the pot with a glass cover from an old end table I had and I use that as a combination table and storage unit. I stuff pillows and lap blankets inside and it protects them from the weather and makes them nice and conveniently located.

I had my carpets cleaned Saturday morning, went to the gym, stopped at the Edmond’s Farmers Market, went to Costco (see above comment concerning Costco) and rushed to the University District to meet up with Melissa and Kelsey. As part of my Mother’s Day gift we had facials at Spa Cotta. Spending time with my girls as well as having one my favorite pampered services is downright special. My dream is that I could have a facial once a month – it is such a delicious feeling to be indulged like that.

Saturday evening we all met up for Peter’s Medieval birthday bash. You were supposed to arrive in a middle age costume – I am not opposed to dressing up but rather just cheap – there were plenty of guests who did dress up. Peter was a king but when I got there he had already removed half his costume and so he looked like he was wearing some strange shirt that he made. Melissa made a sword and shield for Abby and I did don a hat that someone had brought. Eli showed up in his dragon costume but he had already removed it by the time I arrived. Ted, Peter’s friend since grade school brought his really sweet hotdog machine. It’s just like the kind you see in 7-11. While helping some ladies from his church clean out a storeroom he commented,“You should get rid of this, when was the last time it was used?” They agreed and asked him to dispose of it and Ted responded, “Well if you’re just going to get rid of it I'll just take it home with me!” Tricky don’t you think???

Sunday night I had a family party as the culmination of Peter’s birthday week. What a blessing it is to have wonderful children, their great spouses and significant other (Rachel!) and grandchildren gathered at my tiny little house. It is a brilliant sort of hecticness – I love hearing their laughter, the chaos of people, toys, food and dogs.

I did spend some time in my garden too and I am pretty darn proud of the progress it’s making. Before I know it I’ll have a bounty of vegetables available.

Whew . . . I guess I do need to go back to work so I can get some rest!
