When I became a mother my mom was good at bragging about her grandchildren and liked to see them occasionally but as far as regularly scheduled - 'give mom a break' type care giving, she just wasn't into it. After Peter was born she was only willing to take Melissa and Kelsey but three was too many. This left me having to find a second person to help me out. I was often frustrated by this or suffered hurt feelings. Finally a good friend convinced me that my mom was not a good resource for babysitting and I quit asking her. It improved our relationship and it also helped me form my plan for my own future grandchildren (B-Z is grinning right now because she knows I really, really did spend time thinking about this while Peter was still in diapers).
Well, the time is finally here and I am implementing my plan for how I want to be a grandmother! My boffice (guest room, office) now includes a crib - maybe I need to rename it bofficery. Once a month my grandchildren are invited for an overnight stay with Meme and Friday night was Eli's second slumber party!
Eli now crawls (fast) and pulls himself up in addition to squatting and occasionally letting go to grab on to another surface. He will be walking very soon. I had to baby-proof my house. Grabbing a large Rubbermaid container I filled it with all the low level things that Eli could touch, break, or get in trouble with.
Some day before I know it Abby will be joining the Meme slumber party extravaganza! I can't wait.
Abby is so tiny! So beautiful! And Eli is just too cute! You are the best Meme!
ReplyDeleteof course I was smiling and of course that is exactly what you were doing then. Love that smiling pic of Abby, what a doll. Eli looks a bit like Peter in that picture, walking already...watch out!!
ReplyDeleteI can't even believe how big Eli is getting. The last time we saw him, christmas, he was still such a peanut. Abby is adorable!
